If you get a carpool ticket and you go to court and plead not guilty.?

Then you go back again to contest it and the cop shows up and they find you still guilty. If you let the judge send the ticket to collections does it only mess up your credit or does your license get suspended also if you don't pay it? I live in california and got it in oakland.
