I am finishing my basement but I am NOT finshing my ceiling I am painting it. Can I paint my recessed lights?

can I paint a recessed light housing? I am painting the ceiling (floor josits) flat black and would like to have my lights "disappear" into the ceiling. I am just worried about the heat from the light and the flamability of the paint. I really don't want to burn my house down. Thanks.
